Put the live map on your home screen

LiveEarthViewer installs straight from your browser — no store, no sign-up, nothing to update. It gets its own icon next to your other apps and opens full-screen, with the browser bars gone and the live map already moving.

How to install it, on any device

iPhone and iPad

On iPhone and iPad, Safari installs web apps from the Share menu — there is no one-tap button a website can offer.

  1. Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow).
  2. Scroll and tap "Add to Home Screen".
  3. Tap "Add" — LiveEarthViewer appears with your apps.

It has to be Safari — on iPhone and iPad, Chrome and Firefox are Safari underneath and Apple only gives the Share menu that option in Safari itself.

Android

Chrome usually offers a one-tap Installbutton — it will appear in the card at the top of this page, or in the address bar. If you don’t see it, your browser can install this map as an app from its own menu.

  1. Open the browser menu (⋮ or the install icon in the address bar).
  2. Choose "Install" or "Add to Home screen".
  3. It opens full-screen, straight to the live map.

Windows, Mac and Linux

Chrome, Edge, Brave and Opera all install it the same way — an install icon appears at the right-hand end of the address bar, or the same option sits in the ⋮ menu. It opens in its own window, with no tabs and no address bar. Firefox and Safari on the desktop don’t install web apps at all; there, just bookmark the map.

What you actually get

  • The whole site, full-screen. Not a cut-down version — the installed app is the live Earth map, and every canvas comes with it: Sky, Ocean, Sun, Cams and Atlas.
  • It stays current on its own. There is no version to update. You open it and you have whatever we shipped that morning.
  • It needs a connection.Every layer here is live data pulled the moment you look — radar sweeps, aircraft positions, quake feeds. Installing it does not make it work offline, and we’d rather tell you that than have you find out on a plane.
  • No account, no ads to dodge, no data of yours to hand over. Installing changes nothing about what the site knows about you.

We’re not in any app store

There is no LiveEarthViewer listing on the App Store or Google Play. This page is the only official way to install it, and the only address it ever runs from is liveearthviewer.com— worth knowing, because “live earth map” is a busy name in both stores and none of those apps are ours.

Nothing you install here is a download in the old sense: it’s the website itself, given an icon. You can remove it exactly like any other app, and there is nothing left behind when you do.
