What the colours mean

Every airport is tinted by its size class. Amber marks the large international hubs — the ones with long runways and intercontinental traffic. Charge-blue is the medium regional airports most countries run a handful of. Radar-green is the smaller fields that still carry scheduled service. What actually separates a “large” airport from a “medium” one — and why an airport can have two different codes — is worth two minutes:

About this data

Airport locations and codes come from OurAirports, an open, public-domain registry. We keep every large and medium airport, plus small airports flagged as running scheduled service — so the map leans toward places with real passenger traffic. Coverage by region:
