The Ocean in 5 Depth Zones

The five life zones of the sea by depth — the Sunlight Zone (epipelagic, 0–200 m), the Twilight Zone (mesopelagic, 200–1,000 m), the Midnight Zone (bathypelagic, 1,000–4,000 m), the Abyss (abyssopelagic, 4,000–6,000 m) and the Hadal Zone (the trenches, 6,000 m+). Each is a translucent coloured band drawn over the patch of open ocean where the seafloor actually reaches that depth, darkening as it goes deeper. Tap a zone for what lives there, how much light and pressure, and how little of it humans have ever seen. Over 90% of the ocean lies below 200 m, in the dark.
