At 14.4°C the water is cold — cold enough that most people want a wetsuit; bracing for a quick dip. Sea temperature lags the seasons, so the warmest water at Eurekausually comes a month or two after the hottest air, and a cold current or a spell of offshore wind can drop it sharply within a day. This is the surface layer; it's cooler a few metres down.
