Is it warm enough to swim at St. John's?

At 5.5°C the water is frigid — dangerously cold — a wetsuit is essential and exposure time is short. Sea temperature lags the seasons, so the warmest water at St. John'susually comes a month or two after the hottest air, and a cold current or a spell of offshore wind can drop it sharply within a day. This is the surface layer; it's cooler a few metres down.
