How this number is worked out
This is an honest projection, not a live register. United States’s published annual figure is carried forward evenly over real elapsed time (tonnesper second = the annual figure ÷ 31,556,952 seconds in a year). Each country’s production (territorial) CO₂ so far, projected from its population and emissions per person. The fuel burned and cement made inside its borders — not the emissions embedded in what it imports. The source is World Bank Open Data (CC-BY 4.0) (2024). The real total varies through the day and year; this is the running estimate, and we label it as one.
