PULSE · EARTH’S LIVE VITALS

Earth’s Pulse

The planet’s vital signs, right now — and not a single one faked. Most “live counter” sites take a yearly estimate, divide by seconds, and animate a number as if it were measured. We don’t. Here, 16 of these counters are genuinely live— flights in the air, quakes today, people in space, the solar wind — read from the same feeds that power the maps. The handful that are projections wear an est. badge with their rate and source in plain sight. And every number is a doorway: tap it and you land on the exact map, layer and place where you can watch it happen.

Connecting to live feeds… · v321 (Pulse hero band: world population promoted to a large ticking centrepiece at the top of the page, flanked by three live vitals - people in space, flights airborne, quakes today - and removed from the grid so it appears once)

How to read these numbers

LIVE · MEASUREDThe crown jewelsThese tick because reality is ticking — a satellite saw the fire, a seismometer felt the quake, a spacecraft clocked the wind. If a feed drops, the counter says so. It never keeps ticking on stale data, because a frozen pulse is a lie.
EST. · PROJECTEDHonest projectionsA few numbers — world population, births today, CO₂ emitted — can’t be measured second by second. We project them from a published annual rate over real elapsed time, and we show you the rate and the source. It’s an estimate, and we say so.

For the slow numbers that barely move — total population, GDP, life expectancy — Pulse points you to the Atlas, where they belong as proper maps rather than a fake clock.

Behind every number, a living map
