Can you actually see a launch?

It depends on where you are. Within a few hundred kilometres of the pad, a daytime launch climbs visibly above the horizon a minute or two after lift-off. Farther out, the rocket itself disappears — but a launch near dawn or dusk can paint a glowing, expanding exhaust plume high in the sky (the so-called “space jellyfish”) that's sometimes visible from hundreds of kilometres away. From the other side of the world, it simply isn't visible — which is exactly what each city page will tell you, rather than pretend otherwise.

Each city page works out how far the next launch's pad is from that location, which way to look, and whether it's a watch-from-your-yard event or a watch-the-stream one.
