The globe on the Radio canvas carries 8,355 stations, each placed where it broadcasts from and tinted by genre. They are the community-verified, precisely-located slice of something much larger: 29,280 playable streams in a directory of 59,557 listed stations across 147countries. Tap any glyph and the station plays live from the broadcaster’s own servers — no re-hosting, no re-streaming, just the planet on a tuner dial.

Why 8,355 on the map, not 59,557?

The directory is community-maintained, and honesty beats volume. A station earns a glyph only when it has real coordinates, a stream the checker recently confirmed alive, and a browser-playable format. Of the rest, 20,925playable stations carry no reliable location — they live in the country listings below instead — and the remainder were unreachable when the snapshot was baked on 2026-07-05. Streams also die and move daily, so a glyph can still refuse to answer: the player says so plainly and offers the next station nearby rather than pretending.

Genre tags are the community’s, folded into seven families at bake time; a station’s own description always wins over our colour.
