Wave Height (Global)

How big the waves are across the whole ocean right now — a live global map of significant wave height in metres (roughly the height of the largest third of the waves, the standard measure of a sea state), combining local wind-sea and long-travelled swell. Calm seas read blue, big seas bright; the standout is the vast unbroken belt of giant swell ringing the Southern Ocean, the roughest seas on the planet, alongside the calm doldrums and the steady trade-wind seas. This is the GLOBAL wave field — the Surf & Swell layer, by contrast, is a detailed point forecast for a single chosen coast, and WaveWatch III had no keyless tile path — so this closes a real gap. Updated every three hours.
