Each country’s yearly figure is carried forward evenly over real elapsed time (peopleper second = the annual figure ÷ 31,556,952 seconds), the same method the headline counters on the Pulse wall use. The source is World Bank Open Data (CC-BY 4.0) (2024). The true value is known only to within a margin; this is the running estimate, and we label it as one.
